Amazing Mark Making

Amazing Mark Making
    9:30 am-3:30 pm

The journey to becoming a ‘writer’ is a complex one and starts way before children pick up a pencil. Our first challenge as practitioners is to engage children in the mark making process. We need to have a good understanding of how muscle development, handeye
coordination, balance, movement and many more physical aspects impact on children’s ability to make marks. Once children are successfully making marks then we need to carefully guide them through the transition from mark maker to ‘writer’.
Starting at the beginning of the writer’s journey, the course will look at how physical development impacts upon children’s ability to be able to hold and use a mark making implement. You will then follow the transition into successful mark maker and then successful writer. During the course you will be given access to a bank of exciting, tried and tested activity and assessment ideas to take away and use in your setting.
